It’s so great this clip. The music is so warm and easy to listen to, and the old 16mm footage was so well shot – someone in this family was obviously passionate about getting a clean steady shot with their hi-tech 16mm movie camera!
This is one of my favourite clips that I’ve cut together. It’s such a simple idea that Matt Ellis wanted to do – use old family 16mm footage in his music clip, and that’s it. So we set up the projector and filmed against a white wall. We then filmed that with a HDV camera (hi tech at the time and used by every Indi film maker) which then allowed us to transfer into editing software.
I like the soft edges – something that you would use a plug-in to do now, but it was just there once the image was projected onto the wall, so we framed up the camera to capture it.
Matt Ellis has moved onto a solo career in California. Check him out at: http://mattellis.com/blog/
